In October 2020, the Hudson Library & Historical Society will offer a virtual intermediate level Etsy course, aimed at shop owners who have an Etsy store and who are looking to grow their business This brand-new four-week course will cover how to build solid a customer profile and use it to strengthen your shop’s branding, listings, and appearance. Learn a variety of ways to connect with your customers, make choices about which ones are right for your shop, and evaluate the effectiveness. The Etsy Craft Entrepreneurship Program is sponsored by the Burton D. Morgan Foundation.

Research a local news organization and come up with a new way for them to engage with their community. The outlet can be any type — TV, radio, newspaper, non-profit, weekly, online only, monthly, etc. And your engagement idea can be anything! Be creative and think outside the usual avenues for that outlet, brainstorm with them to see what they’d be interested in trying with you.

Create a plan on how you would work with them to implement your idea over a three-month period. You will need to detail the necessary steps, milestones and how you plan to measure success at the end of your three months. Submit this idea below by Oct. 31, 2020.
The JOANN Minority Creative Grant program will commit $100,000 to Black entrepreneurs, small businesses, and charitable efforts to continue creating, inspiring and finding their Happy Place.

Useful Info for your Biz

If you made money from freelancing or gig economy work in 2020, you will receive a new tax form by February 1, 2021—Form 1099-NEC. This replaces Form 1099-MISC, which companies have to send when you earn $600 or more. Although there are still limited details about Form 1099-NEC, you can find the latest version (currently a draft) and future filing instructions here.
